A SMARTPHONE WITH THERMAL IMAGING
ESSENTIAL NEW MEASURES TO IMPLEMENT AFTER GLOBAL LOCKDOWN

In April 2020 many more businesses including hospitality, retail, logistics and manufacturing are using EST (elevated skin temperature) detection as part of their programs to protect staff and customers.

EST could be a sign of fever.

The Cat 60 Series Smartphones include an integrated FLIR thermal imaging system that is able to provide effective triage screening for EST. They are super simple to use – can be handheld or tripod mounted and set up in less than 10 minutes.

The Cat S60 and S61 are fully functioning, highly durable Android smartphones that work harder for your money (than a stand alone thermal imaging camera) now and into the future.

HOW IT WORKS

All physical things, including people, radiate infrared energy which can be detected by a thermal camera.

Thermal imaging cameras are very good at identifying anomalies in temperature.

If the temperature of the skin is above average, then the individual can be advised to seek further screening.

This can be done at the Government advised safe distance of 2 meters.

In 2016, the Cat S60 was the first smartphone in the world to integrate a thermal imaging camera. The Cat S61 was launched in 2018. These are tried & tested.

The Cat S61 or Cat S60 should only be used as one aspect of a wider temperature screening program. Cat phones can identify individuals in a population that show higher than average skin temperature in relation to a calibrated “normal”. Cat phones do not find individuals experiencing Covid-19/ Coronavirus symptoms, and therefore they cannot be used to diagnose Covid-19/ Coronavirus, or any other physical condition. We are not advertising these devices for use in the medical industry or for medical purposes. There is no way to thermally detect an infected individual who does not exhibit an elevated skin temperature, and only a qualified and licensed medical practitioner can determine if an individual exhibiting an elevated skin temperature is experiencing any abnormal medical condition. Users should comply with any local laws governing the use of surveillance tools.

BENEFITS OF A SMART PHONE SOLUTION

Though standalone thermal cameras are available, the thermal camera integrated into the Cat S61 and also Cat S60 offer a number of key advantages:

Cat phones are military spec ‘rugged’ devices. Designed and built to be extremely tough and robust, making them suitable for use in any environment, indoors or outdoors.

They can be easily cleaned and disinfected and can be fully submerged in hot water with soaps, detergents or even bleach.

They are connected devices. As smartphones, thermal imagery or other data collected can, where necessary, be shared, streamed or screen-mirrored via WiFi or cellular data connections.

EASY TO USE MASS SCREENING DEVICE

1. Open the MyFLIR app

Mount phone into monitoring location / tripod that will allow people to pass by at a maximum of 1.5m away facing the camera as straight on as possible.

Set colour palette to ‘Iron’ if it is not already selected.

2. Tap the calibrate icon

Tap the temperature gradient icon (fourth icon in from top left) so the visible temperature bar appears to the right of the screen.

(top right icon) – the sensor will now automatically calibrate.

3. Tap the top temperature

Enter 34°C or 93°F and tap the tick icon to confirm. Tap the lower temperature at the bottom of the chart to edit and lock it. Enter 32°C or 89°F and tap the tick icon to confirm.

Wait for 2-3 minutes before use as the accuracy will increase as the sensor warms up.

The display will now only show temperatures between these two temperatures. Anything lower will be black, anything higher will be white. Anything showing up with a colour or white will be highlighting an elevated temperature.

This is a preliminary screening tool, not a medical diagnostic instrument. Thermal imaging sensor should not be used as a substitute for a medically certified thermometer.
